1.Water Supply To Rural Areas

The aim of this project is to supply clean and safe water to the rural areas using simple technology with emphasis on easy design, construction and maintenance. Generally, extensions from the main piping system will be built connecting to the rural areas , whenever possible, in collaboration with the State Department of Water supply. However, if such connections are not possible , other alternatives may be used. This mainly includes water pumps ; to draw water from the earth instead of using uncontrolled wells that may be contaminated. Apart from this, gravity feet system is used to supply water from a high point ; eg.mountains to an area of lower altitude. Hence, the usage of water from other sources like river or rain water are not encouraged.

2.Sanitary Latrine

To establish proper sanitary latrine in the form of “tandas curah” .Each toilet costs about RM 900.

3.Sewage & Solid Waste Disposal.

In the initial stages of the program, importance was given to clean water supply and sanitary latrine. However, during the later stages, emphasis was also given to sewage and solid waste disposal. Piping system is build for proper sewage disposal. On the contrary, a cement ring bin with a metal lid is used for the disposal of solid wastes. This enables them to gather the solid wastes in the bin and burn them safely ( even during rainy season ), instead of the usual open burning.

Target for the year 2009

Water supply JKR/KMM = 30
Sanitary latrine / “tandas curah” = 40
Solid waste disposal / Dustbins = 100
Sewage disposal = 95

BUDGET ALLOCATION = RM 98708.74
